Diwali is a shortened version of Deepawali (deepa=lamps, wali=row: rows of lamps). Households in India put lamps in every window, and temples brightly illuminate their altars to bring in the best for the upcoming year. The date of the festival coincides with the return of the avatar of God, Sri Rama, to His ancestral kingdom after 14 years of exile and many adventures. All the citizens welcomed Rama home by brightening up His home city of Ayodhya and setting off fireworks.

Please make every opportunity to attend this wonderful celebration.

Govardhana Puja
Sunday, 10.30.2011, 11AM-2PM

Following Diwali, on Sunday, October 30th, at 11 AM we will celebrate the Lifting of Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna, the highlight of this year's celebration is the worship of Sri Giri Govardhan and Srimati Radharani.

Lord Krishna inaugurated Govardhana Worship about 5000 years ago when He was performing His pastimes in Vrindavan. Ever since then this festival is celebrated every year by offering numerous food items to Giri Govardhan and circumambulating around Him with devotion. Giri Govardhan is an expansion of Lord Krishna Himself and in Srimad Bhagavatam He is glorified as the foremost servant of Lord Krishna. Our acaryas have glorified Giri Govardhan with chosen words and pressed the need to seek His blessings to attain love for the divine couple Sri Sri Radha and Krishna.

Sri Visvanatha Cakarvarti in his Govardhanastakam writes:

vina bhavet kim hari-dasa-varya-
padasrayam bhaktir atah srayami
yam eva saprema nijesayoh sri-
govardhano me disatam abhistam

"WIthout taking shelter of the feet of the hill that is the best of Lord Hari's servants and full of love for the divine king and queen, how is it possible to attain pure devotional service? May Govardhana Hill fulfill my desire"

Please join us on Sundary October 30, 2011, 11:00AM to worship Giri Govardhna, hear His glories and take a tour of various places on and around Him. There will be arati at 12:30 PM followed by sumptuous Govardhana prasadam!
