Snana Yatra Festival Sunday, 6.19.2011, 12:00 PM
This Sunday the 19th, a bathing ceremony will be done to Their Lordships Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra devi. The festival begins with Their Lordships coming to the bathing place, Snana-Vedi. At this time all the devotees get the once in a year opportunity of being able to bathe the Lord in nectarean natural bathing substances. Lord Jagannatha will be bathed in milk, honey, yogurt, ghee, ganga water and fruit juices. This pastime of bathing the Lorships, receiving Their maha fruit garlands, has always been an ecstatic experience for all the devotees; children and adults alike. After the bathing, the Lordships will go into a secluded place on the plea of catching a cold. At this time our pujaris serve Them special bhoga and medicines to enable Their recovery. During the period of Their absence on the altar devotees offer Jagannathashtakam prayers every day and expresses their longing to see the Lordships. The Lordships finally come out on the day of Ratha Yatra to give darshan, not only to the longing devotees but to all the citizens of Boise who come for the parade. Please come and participate in the Snana Yatra event, on Sunday, June 19th, as per the schedule below: 12:00 PM Aarati 12:30 PM Snana Yatra 1:15 PM Prasadam Please, see the "Seva Opportunities" and "Sponsorships/Donations" sections on the left side for complete details. |
Mandir Marjanam: Cleaning of the Temple Sunday, 6.19.2011, Saturday 6.25.2011, Sunday 6.26.2011, Saturday 7.2.2011, & Sunday 7.3.201
Caitanya Caritamrita Madhya lila states "Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu washed and cleansed the Guṇḍicā temple with His devotees and associates. In this way He made it as cool and bright as His own heart, and thus He made the temple a befitting place for Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa to sit." It is not at all an exaggeration to say that many devotees who have performed this service have felt enlivened in their heart after performing this service. Devotees clean the temple so that when Lord Jagannatha comes out of his hiding, he sees a sparkling Temple with happy devotee faces! Please stay after the Feast on Sundays to help clean the temple.
Anurag Prabhu is coordinating a special cleanup of Smt. Radharani's Kitchen. Contact him if you would like to volunteer your time. Please, see the "Seva Opportunities" and "Sponsorships/Donations" sections on the left side for complete details. |
Ratha Yatra Festival Monday, 7.4.2011

Jagannatha Rath Yatra is a unique celebration and is considered by many as the grandest of all festivals. Saints and the scriptures have repeatedly glorified the sanctity of this special festival. The sanctity of the festival is such that a touch of the chariot or even the ropes with which the chariot is pulled is considered enough to confer the results of several pious deeds or penance for ages. The Skanda Purana glorifies the sanctity of the Rath Yatra in the following words: Gundicha mandapam namam yatra hamajanampura Ashwamedha sahasrasya mahabedi tadadvabat "Those who are fortunate to see the Deities of the Srimandira in the Gundicha Temple, the final destination of the procession of the chariots, derive the benefits of a thousand horse sacrifices, an immensely pious deed." The Ratha Yatra for Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhdra devi will be part of the July 4th Parade, that begins at 11:00AM in the down town area. Dance with the Ratha! Every year, Matajis and children do excellent dances in front of the Ratha. Please wear your best traditional clothes and dance your way through the parade.
After the parade the Lordships will return to the Temple and they will be worshipped by a Grand Arati ceremony and hari kirtan. A grand feast will be served after the Arati. An email with a detailed map of the parade route will be sent soon. Service Opportunities: To put on the festivals as described above needs much help both monetary and manual labor. We humbly request all of you to participate in this festival, receive the mercy of the Lordships and distribute it to others as well. Please, see the "Seva Opportunities" and "Sponsorships/Donations" sections on the left side for complete details. |
