Srila Prabhupada's Appearance Day
Janmashtami Festival!

Wednesday, 9.1.2010, 6:15 p.m.

Five thousand years ago Shri Krishna appeared on earth to protect the pious, annihilate the miscreants, and reestablish the principles of virtue. This was accomplished in a span of 125 years even at the end of which the Lord appeared as a fresh blooming youth of 16 or 20 years. Before returning to His own spiritual abode, the Lord spoke the Bhagavad Gita (Song of God) to his friend and disciple, Arjuna, thus leaving behind Him a legacy of wisdom for the ages.

The word Krishna means "All-Attractive" in Sanskrit. Krishna, in his manifest pastimes, exhibited six opulences or "attractive qualities" in full: beauty, knowledge, fame, wealth, strength, and humility. No other incarnation of Godhead exhibited these qualities to the same degree, and therefore Krishna is worshiped throughout India as "The Supreme Personality of Godhead." Devotees chant His Holy Names considering that the names of the Absolute are non-different from the Absolute Himself. Aside from the ubiquitous chanting there will be many other elements to celebrate His advent during the celebration of his earthly appearance.
Festival Features:

  • Maha Aartis and Abhishekam
  • House of 10,000 flowers
  • Boat and Swing Rides for Lord Krishna
  • Traditional Indian Music
  • Indian BharatNatyam Dances

Srila Prabhupada's Appearance Day!

Thursday, 9.2.2010, 10:30a.m.

In 1896, on the day following Janmashtami, His Divine Grace, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada was born in Calcutta, India.

In the Vaishnava calendar, this day is also known as Nandotsava: the day that Nanda Maharaja, Krishna's father, prepared a grand festival to celebrate the birth of his son.

As founder-acarya of ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada plays a central role in the life of all ISKCON devotees. Everyone connected to ISKCON knows that without Srila Prabhupada's courage and his unmotivated love and compassion all the residents of the world, we would not have had the opportunity to intimately serve Krishna in such a favorable environment as exists within ISKCON.

Please join us for this remembrance and show your appreciation for Srila Prabhupada by sharing realizations of his mercy in your life.
Sincerely,
